Our Engagement Shoot

Prepping for our engagement shoot was a complete disaster. If there was one piece of advice I could give to anyone getting ready to take their engagement pictures, it would be to be prepared. My story: I decided to lighten my own hair the night before our pictures. The whole process took a lot longer than I had expected so I took my foils out too early, leaving my hair an ugly yellow color while at the same time frying the hair around my face that I had been working on growing out for so long! I had to be at work early the next morning but luckily my boss let me leave mid-day to fix my hair and do some other last minute clothing/cosmetics shopping. In such a rush I was only able to half-way fix my yellow hair, of course I couldn't find the perfect last minute accessories that I had planned on finding, and with so little time at Ulta I quickly picked a lip color that wasn't even right for me. Then I had to cut Kaleo's hair so quickly that it turned into what you could call a hack job. He also hadn't tried on the outfits that I had bought him to wear until right before our shoot and some of the clothing I bought him didn't even fit! And then to top it all off I didn't have time to paint my nails until five minutes before we had to meet our photographer in the lobby of our apartment. So I threw on my heels and only painted the two and a half toes that were showing on each foot. Can you say tacky? Oh my gosh, so stressful. However, the shoot itself was so much fun. Kaleo and I learned that we can't take a serious picture together to save our lives. We just start laughing nonstop- ok, I start laughing. I have to constantly tell myself to pull it together, pull it TOGETHER! We also learned that with our height difference it is incredibly hard to take standing pictures together. Half of the time my neck was hurting from staring up at him and his back was hurting from hunching over to look at me or kiss me. Does anyone else have memories from high school dances where your neck hurts so bad at the end of the night because your date is SO much taller than you? That's what our engagements were like. I also learned that no matter how great your photographer is, the chances are you will have ideas in your head that are different from theirs, so definitely SPEAK UP about those! Some of my very favorite pictures were from ideas that I would throw out mid-shoot. Most likely your photographer will be glad to hear them and happy to cooperate. So those are my tips. And here are the rest of our pictures :) Trying to decide which ones to print to hang in our apartment/house is one of the most difficult decisions ever!
